Huey Calhoun, an out of work, rock ‘n roll-loving white man, promises to get local black singer Felicia on the radio and immediately begins applying for disc jockey jobs at white radio stations. When Huey finally gets an opportunity, he becomes immensely popular for playing rock ‘n roll – by artists of any color – and gets Felicia on the radio as promised, beginning a romance with her that others find disturbing. As the talented Huey and Felicia continue their careers, they encounter prejudices that challenge them to consider their priorities and fight for their dreams.
